Bringing Yoga & Well-Being to Savannah Since 2003

Alexandra Mitchell

Alexandra Mitchell is a spiritual yogini with the heart of a dancer and the rhythm of a bassist. She obtained a Bachelor’s in Human Resource Management from Auburn University. Born in Savannah, Alexandra moved back in 2006 to grow roots in the community as a Property Manager whiles she moonlighted as a professional Middle Eastern Dancer, musician and Fire Performer.

She began to pursue her holistic path after profound changes when she graduated from her 200-hour Intensive YTT from Savannah Yoga Center in 2013. She began working at SYC as the Laundress/ Work Trade Angel moving on to become Studio/Facilities Manager, then back to Laundress and now a teacher. During this whirlwind, she became a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2015.

Her nurturing enthusiasm drives her to continuous education in bodywork and energy work. Alexandra’s dance background lends to the graceful flow of vinyasa yoga. Inspired by nature, the cosmos, and the metaphysical, her practice remains focused on the mind, body and soul balance.

Her energetic personality vibrates in class as she threads an intention that is reflective through music.

Join her on the mat to build some heat, increase flexibility, harness strength and forge endurance, all the while remembering to stay present... breathe.

Emily Bowser

Emily’s first experience with yoga was the class she never attended – she was too scared to walk through the door. The following day she returned and kept coming back day after day. Years later, she is still just as in love with this practice as when she first began. Emily also loves spending time with her family, making art, swimming in the ocean and dancing in her living room.

Kelly Boyd

Kelley Boyd, founder of Savannah Yoga Center, has been practicing and teaching yoga for nearly 20 years. Her teaching style is creative and lighthearted.

Kelley teaches two polar opposite styles of yoga:

Dynamic Vinyasa for those that like to flow quickly while sweating their way to enlightenment to upbeat tempo music as well as Gentle Vinyasa for those that want or need to experience more ease and comfort in their lives. She often threads mythology, mudra and breathwork into the practice, her hope is that students experience the magic, grounding and transformational nature of yoga in her classes.

Kelley’s dedication to the Savannah community led her to create the SYC Community Partner Program. The program has donated over $15,000 to local charities since 2010, through special events and classes at SYC. Having shown excellence in work, community and philanthropy, Kelley was granted the Armstrong State University Notable Alumni Award in October 2016

Kelley holds a B.A. in Art from Armstrong Atlantic State University and continues to live a life saturated in creativity which manifests its self not only through the yoga retreats, classes and workshops she offers year round but also in her crystal, mineral and spirit shop, Ordinary Magic, which opened on Summer Solstice, June 21, 2019.

Lauren McDonald

Lauren discovered Forrest Yoga in 2011 while living in California, and it truly changed her life! It encouraged her to look within, begin to heal, and discover her own sparkle! It also helped her to unwind her body after sitting at a computer all day while completing a degree in Landscape Architecture at the University of Georgia…

Since moving back to Georgia, she had been struggling with the fact that there is not much Forrest Yoga accessible to the Southeast. This year she decided to take matters into her own hands and completed a teacher training with Ana Forrest to deepen her personal practice and to be able to share this transformational practice with others.

Her classes focus on deepening the breath, strengthening the core, and building power on a physical & mental level. She will guide you through a challenging, playful, safe sequence of poses to help you to move past emotional and physical barriers, to grow both on and off the mat. Through guided breath work and skillful hands on assists, Lauren’s aim is to help her students feel deeply and connect with their own sparkling energy!

Danielle Mitchell

Danielle was born in California and from the moment she touched the ground loved to dance and move. She moved to Miami and worked as a hip hop dancer there for many years. Then moved to New York at 25 and took a break from dancing but craved the movement. She took a vinyasa class in the East Village one day and immediately fell in love…

The breath and the motion were everything she needed.

Danielle completed her 200 hour certification shortly after and have been teaching vinyasa ever since. She is also certified in children’s yoga and currently working on her 300 yoga certification. She recently moved to Savannah and am so excited to make new friends and teach at SYC.

Danielle welcomes you to try her classes and share movement and breath together!

Melody Wahaus

Melody’s first experience of yoga was in 2015 as a college student looking for an activity. As she discovered that college was just not for her, she also came to realize her weekly yoga class was her favorite part of being in school. When the academic year ended she told her instructor she was now considering teaching yoga one day. In the following years Melody continued with a home practice while working as a server to save up enough money to move to Savannah…

She continued using sequences she remembered from class and though her practice felt minimal, she knew she could always come back to the mat when the physical demands of the service industry wore her down. She began reading books on Zen, Tao, Buddha, and metaphysical topics which were prepping her for the spiritual and physical expansion that teacher training would eventually bring, even if she didn’t know it at the time.

Several months after moving to Savannah, she found Savannah Yoga Center’s 200 hour teacher training program and decided this was something she had to do. The program showed her that studying this ancient art was exactly the kind of schooling she had needed all along.

She graduated with her 200 hour certification in May 2018, and she shares yoga with others in the hope that they will also be able to experience the clarity, peace, and contentment that yoga brings to her. Melody teaches in an all-levels style where she begins slowly and steadily, giving space for the student to expand into new growth. She strives to bring love and lightheartedness to her teaching through her gentle demeanor, and believes that yoga truly is for everyone.

Veenu Sharma

Being greatly influenced by great Indian yogis led her to delve deeper into the philosophy of yoga. She studied yogic scriptures such as Bhagvad Gita, Vedas, Upanishads, Ayurveda, Patanjali Yoga Sutras, and literature from various scholars…

She pursued her Post Graduation in Yoga Science from University in India. She completed a 300 hour teacher training program from India, and a 100 hour advanced teacher training from Hong Kong. Besides, she also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce and an MBA in Business Management, Marketing & IT from India.

She has taught Yoga in India and Hong Kong for several years, and now intends to bring the benefits of yoga to everyone in her class. Her classes focus on traditional holistic practice where practitioners gain strength and flexibility, feel the benefits of deep breathing (pranayama), and gain calmness and balance through meditation. Students make significant progress and move from one level to another. They see a positive change in their lifestyle, attitude, and perspective.

Kiesha Mashtaire

Kiesha is currently a student in a 200 hour yoga teacher training course working steadily toward her certification, but has been practicing yoga for about 6 years.
It is her goal to show people that yoga is for everybody. Defining everybody as literally everyone and every actual body. It is her goal to show the inclusivity in yoga and that it is for every shape, size, flexibility range or even if there may be mobility issues. She looks forward to growing more in her practice and sharing what she learns along the way.
